A year later, Certina created the thinnest split-second chronograph, though this achievement was later taken by another watchmaker. In 1987, the company developed the world's thinnest self-winding chronograph, as well as the smallest minute-repeater movement (at the time). In the early days of the company, Certina merely produced watch parts for other companies in the region. Founded in 1888 by Adolf and Alfred Kurth, Certina began with just three employees and a home-based workshop.
While they may not be the oldest Swiss watchmakers operating today, Certina watches are unique in their history, design, and operations.
